TaikaBox, based in Oulu, Finland and Cardiff, Wales was founded in 2010 by choreographer/dancer Tanja Råman and digital artist/designer John Collingswood. The company’s name, taken from the Finnish word: ‘Taika’ means ‘magical’ or ‘enchanted’.

Tanja and John’s long-term collaboration has resulted in the creation of a variety of works including performances, installations, films and art works that have toured internationally.

WHAT WE DO

CREATION

TaikaBox creates performances for stage, site-responsive dance, films, installations and broadcasts.

Our work is an amalgamation of dance and technology, using digital media to enhance choreographic expression and engage with audiences

EDUCATION

With many years of teaching experience, we offer workshops that can be tailored to a variety of needs. From a basic childrens' dance class to complex dance science training programme, or an introduction to interactive stage environments and new technologies for dancers, we deliver quality pedagogy with a focus on individual creative expression.

RESEARCH

We are dedicated to finding new ways of creating work, and sharing what we create. Engagement with audiences is particularly important to us, and a proportion of our work is focussed on researching ways to use technology to connect dance with the public.

FACILITATION

We support the development of other artists with mentoring programmes, creative collaboration and facilitation of artists residencies
